Custom Mappa Burl Veneer Solution for a Specialty Furniture Application

The Challenge

A customer wanted to create a custom cover for an oval poker table that would function as both a practical surface and a high-end furniture piece. The project called for a distinctive Mappa Burl veneer finish and a seamless appearance that would complement the overall design.

One challenge involved sourcing matching burl edgebanding, which is not commonly available and often requires large minimum order quantities. The customer needed a solution that would deliver a premium finished appearance while meeting the unique requirements of a one-of-a-kind project.

The Solution

FormWood worked closely with the customer to develop a custom veneer solution tailored to the project’s design goals.

To support fabrication and maintain a consistent appearance, the final panel was prepared with the center cut aligned to the Mappa Burl veneer pattern. Because matching Mappa Burl edgebanding was not readily available, FormWood created custom edgebanding strips from a matching veneer sheet to ensure a cohesive finished look.

The project also required materials capable of supporting the table’s curved design elements. FormWood provided specialty flexible core materials with a paintable surface, allowing the finished piece to achieve both the desired appearance and functionality.

By leveraging available inventory, specialized materials, and custom manufacturing capabilities, FormWood delivered a solution that met the project’s unique design requirements while achieving the premium look the customer envisioned.
