How do you use paperback wood veneer?

Paper backed veneers can be applied using several techniques. Contact cements carpenter’s glue are popular choices for laminating a backed veneer sheet to your substrate. Alternatively, our paper backed veneer sheets can be provided with peel and stick adhesive on the back for easy application.

What is the difference between paperback and wood back veneer?

Paper backed veneer sheets are a veneer sheet backed with a glue-impregnated paper that is permanently in a hot press. Wood backed (2ply or NBL) veneer sheets are comprised of a veneer sheet, a glue sheet, and a wood backer that are permanently bonded in a hot press. For most projects, either option will work and it is up to the craftsman to determine which backer they prefer to use. Thicker backers help prevent telegraphing (imperfections in the surface of the substrate that show through). Thinner backers are more flexible, allow for tighter radiuses, and are easier to cut and work with.

What is paperback veneer?

Paper backed veneer is a thin sheet of wood veneer laminated to a paper backer. The backing is used to stabilize the wood veneer making it easier to handle. Paper backed veneer is used for many projects and can be finished or stained just like veneer plywood. Our paper backed veneer sheets are typically provided pre sanded in large sheets up to 5’x12’. Adding more layers of paper allows us to provide thicker paper backs ranging from 10mil to 30mil.
